First I bought the regular size ones. They're easy to put on and stay on very well... for a while. I wore them only at night, and got about 10 days out of them before waking up to find one was no longer sticking on the bottom, and milk had leaked all over. So I thought I might need the larger ones, to get a larger adhesive border, and I ordered two pairs this time... wish I hadn't. The large ones are much much thinner than the regular size, and the edges don't fit flat - not on me, and not on the plastic shells they are stored on. The edges get lots of lint etc under the edges from my clothes, and that makes the seal even worse, which then makes them leak. Also, because they are so thin, they are too easy to flip from concave to convex, which makes them a little trickier to position just right - they flip the other way and adhere, but before I mean for them to, so I usually have to take them off and try again, which decreases the stickiness each time. I wore the Lilypadz at night for the first 4 wks or so, but the leaking got so annoying that I'm back to disposable pads again.
In retrospect, I think that one problem may have been that I slept in these, and removed them for each nursing session overnight, which was usually about 4-5 times. They could handle being pulled off and reapplied once or twice, but when nursing a newborn, you have to take the pads off too many times in a night for them to keep sticking by morning. A solution might be to clean them with Lilywash after each time you pull them off... but at 2 in the morning, with a 90-minute window for sleeping before the next feeding, who wants to spend any of that precious time cleaning breast pads? Also, they can only be air-dried, so you'd have to put them back on while still wet.
The Lilywash works well, and a bottle lasts a long time. I still have most of my bottle left. I never used the LilyWipes; waste of money but they came in a "starter pack" so that's why I have them.
Overall, I really like the idea of the Lilypadz, and when the regular size ones were new, they were fantastic. I'd like to see the company make the large size in the same thickness as the regular ones; I think that would help solve the leaking issue. LilyPadz in their current form are best in my opinion for women who do not intend to take them off and reapply them without washing them between each application. Maybe that is more realistic for a special night out, than for regular use.
