(More customer reviews)I love LaLoos goat milk frozen yogurt. LaLoos states: "At Laloo's ® we believe that the quality of food and enjoyment of life unite. We let our goats play on 350 acres of rolling hills in Sonoma County, California, where they graze on green grass and thistleberry in the warm Pacific breeze. It's the good life. And the good life makes magical ice cream that's naturally low fat, lactose friendly (tm) and spoon-lickingly delicious to the last scoop." Their goats are not treated with growth hormones. This flavor is incredible and it tastes like ice cream not yogurt. The vanilla is a rich vanilla not the same as their vanilla snowflake flavor. The vanilla yogurt is swirled with cherry ice cream that is d-i-v-i-n-e! Thin tiles of dark decadent chocolate throughout that give it that chocolate delight and crunch without making your jaw work at all. Sssshhhh! Don't tell my dad but I think this is what I am going to send him for father's day this year!
Black Mission Laloo's Goat's Milk Ice Cream, Black Mission Fig, 16-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 4) is another favorite and LaLoos's says is their best-selling.
I purchase from my local grocer for $5.79 each which would be $23.16 for 4 so I guess the added charge is to cover the FREE s/h to make sure it gets to customer fresh and frozen! My local grocer also lets me get it by the 8-pack for $41. This is delicious and nutritious too but watch out for carrageenan (google that if you don't know about colon cancer from it and such).
LaLoo's frozen yogurt has live cultures! Here's what they say on their website about it:
Goat's milk and ProBiotics - What are live and active cultures?
Most of us by now have seen some type of wording on yogurt containers about live and active cultures. But what does it all mean and how does it work? You have taken the first step toward digestive health by choosing Laloo's ® over traditional ice cream. Let us explain how these little cultures stay live and active when they're frozen inside of our spoon lickingly delicious frozen yogurt.
Live and active cultures refer to the living organisms Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, (the friendly bacteria) which convert milk to yogurt during fermentation. Anything officially called 'yogurt' is required to be made with these two cultures. If it doesn't say yogurt, it isn't friendly to your g.i. flora. Laloo's ® goes one step further by adding Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidus cultures (more friendly bugs) for maximum health benefits.
During the freezing process the cultures go into a dormant state, like bears hibernating, but when eaten and returned to a warm temperature within the body, they wake up and return to "live and active" status. Here, inside your body these friendly bacteria are capable of providing all the same benefits of cultures in refrigerated yogurt products like Dan Active or Yakult.
Additionally, the live and active cultures found in yogurt break down lactose in milk. This allows lactose intolerant individuals who commonly experience gastrointestinal discomfort when they consume cow milk products to eat yogurt and receive the nutrients contained in the milk product without the side effects of abdominal cramping, irritable bowel and bloating. Laloo's ® frozen yogurt has more easily digestible fat and protein content than cow milk frozen yogurt. In most cases goat milk products can successfully replace cow milk in diets of those who have sensitivities to cow's milk.
When our founder (Laloo) was pregnant she insisted on smoothies made from frozen yogurt to get her daily dose of probiotics for her changing digestive system and the growing baby. Today she gets emails regularly from pregnant women from all over who not only gush over the low fat ice cream but who sing the praises of probiotics and that along with some studies and reports published that probiotics can play a role in: reducing the development of allergies in children, decreasing certain types of ulcers in the stomach, helping patients cope with side effects of antibiotic therapy, managing relapse of some inflammatory bowel conditions, decreasing the risk of certain cancers, decreasing tooth decay and periodontal disease, and keeping healthy people healthy - it seemed like a good idea.
In fact, Laloo is such a believer in the power of probiotics that she named the newest flavor in the frozen yogurt line after her daughter - Tuilerie.
UPDATE 6/16 Like I mentioned above, I decided to gift this to my dad for father's day and looked at the website saying they take 3-5 days to process and ship it on dry ice which means either overnight or two-day shipping and counted out the best day to order it to get it to my father as close to the day after father's day as possible which means them shipping it on 6/21 for delivery on 6/22-23 which means my ordering it on 6/14. So on 6/14, I placed my order and was surprised that it said it wasn't going to ship until 6/22-24 and then not arrive until July which concerned me so I upgraded shipping although an extra $21.50 is added to the MSRP to cover the special shipping and handling, but it still said that the shipment wouldn't get there until end of June beginning of July. So I decided to trust what the item's information on their Amazon page said although I was getting conflicting information on the orders page and confirmation emails, and switched it back to the free super saver shipping as it doesn't make sense to pay twice the special dry ice shipping price. Then I was surprised to within hours get an email saying my order had shipped that day (the day I placed the order) and would arrive at my dad's office on Wednesday - the Wednesday BEFORE father's day and I thought I had ordered the right day to have it delivered the Tuesday or Wednesday AFTER father's day. It hasn't arrived there yet and I will let you know what my father says about the shipment and the frozen yogurt but I just wanted to let you know about the ordering/shipping experience I had because if Amazon wants to compete with other gift companies like Harry & davids, Popcorn Factory, Shari's Berries, etc. they need to add shipment delivery date requests like those competitors have where you can check please arrive for father's day, mother's day, christmas, or other date you specify and then they do the best they can to get it to arrive on that date. My father travels quite a bit so it is lucky he is going to be here on the date UPS delivers as it is a full 7 days before when I thought I was going to have it delivered. Hopefully it will be fresh and all will be okay but unless Amazon adds a delivery date request for gifts, I would probably choose to order from companies that do so when the delivery date really matters. This is very good frozen yogurt and my father has never tried it but loves frozen yogurt and confided in me that he is excited about Laloo's Goat's Milk Ice Cream, Cherries Tuilerie, 16-Ounce Tubs (Pack of 4) and I don't believe it is available in his hometown! I hope it meets his expectations!
UPDATE - Dad says UPS delivered it in great condition in an inch thick styrofoam container and lots of dry ice still in tact. The frozen yogurt was so hard he couldn't get a spoon in it to sneak a taste yet.
