(More customer reviews)For the first few days after we brought our son home from the hospital he slept like a dream. Then around day five he was inconsolable. He had horrible, painful gas and was fussing and crying all the time. We couldn't get him to sleep for even an hour.
After weeks of this I was exhausted! I was unable to breastfeed directly (I pumped breastmilk and fed it to him in a bottle with formula), and I tried 5 different formulas in 2-3 weeks. We started with Enfamil Lipil and that was way too harsh on baby's tummy - it made him miserable with gas. I then tried Similac Sensitive but he didn't seem to do much better on that. So I moved on to Gerber Gentle Plus because I heard that was good for sensitive babies but he had HORRIBLE gas with that one. I finally decided to move onto soy and I am so glad I did. I didn't happen immediately but within a few days baby seemed much more comfortable and a lot less fussy. Not to say this eliminated his fussiness/gas completely (is that even possible with babies?!) but it decreased his discomfort to a manageable amount. Oh a whim I decided to try Similac Alimentum to see if he would do even better but he HATED that stuff so much - he basically reverted back to his old fussy self on that.
So Soy it is! I started him on Earth's Best Soy but since that cost a small fortune I decided to try this Target brand which is basically the same except it's not organic. He likes the Target brand just as much as Earth's Best - thanks baby!
Also, other people might mention how soy is constipating - if your baby is going to the bathroom, even if his stool isn't totally mushy, he/she isn't constipated. Breastmilk creates liquidy poo, and formula poo is decidedly more solid, and then soy makes it even more firm. Obviously if it's super hard and/or bloody that is a problem but our baby's is like green clay and our pediatrician said that is fine and normal.
